Yield: 2-3 servings

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • salt and pepper

Sauce:

  • 1 tsp salt, or to taste
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 of small onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 2 tsp sesame oil

Garnish:

  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp green onions, chopped

Directions:

  1. Rinse tofu and pat dry with paper towel. Cut the tofu in half lengthwise then into quarter inch thick pieces.
  2. Place the tofu on a plate with paper towel and gently pat to dry with another paper towel to get rid of extra moisture. Season tofu with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat up a large non-stick pan, with one tablespoon of cooking oil over medium heat.
  4. Pan fry the tofu until golden brown (about 3 to 4 minutes each side). Once cooked, transfer to a plate and set aside.
  5. To make the sauce: In a small bowl, mix 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp sugar, 1 tbsp gochugaru, 2 tbsp soy sauce and ½ cup water. Mix well.
  6. Mince the garlic cloves and chop the onion and green onion.
  7. Using the same pan, heat 1 tsp of cooking oil over medium heat. Sauté the minced garlic and chopped onion and green onion.
  8. Pour the sauce then add the cooked tofu. Bring to as soft boil then reduce the heat to low.
  9. Add in the 2 tsp of sesame oil then stir. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  10. Transfer to a serving plate, garnish with a sprinkle  of toasted sesame seeds (about 1 tsp) and chopped green onion (about 1 tbsp).
